Charles Shaffer Is Anna Wintour’s Only Son Who She’s Very Proud Of – All We Know About Him

Charles Shaffer, a doting father of two and a husband, is the first and only son of the longtime and acclaimed Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. Shaffer was born during his mother’s first marriage and is now an accomplished medical professional.

In her iconic career, where she ended the supermodel era and introduced a combination of high and low fashion with celebrities, Anna Wintour became a wife, a mother of two, and a grandmother. Wintour included her children in her work whenever she could, but they both forged paths in different directions.

Her firstborn, Charles Shaffer, opted for and pursued a medical career specializing in Adult Psychiatry. He married his college sweetheart in a stunning ceremony at his mother’s home in Long Island, New York. Soon after, the couple welcomed their children and expanded their family.

Who Is Charles Shaffer, Anna Wintour’s Son?

Charles Shaffer drew his first breath in 1985, born to Anna Wintour and David Shaffer. The 37-year-old attained his first tertiary qualification, an undergraduate degree in Modern History, at Magdalen College at the University of Oxford in England.

He returned to New York and enrolled at Columbia University, where he did his postbaccalaureate premedical program before entering the institution’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. Shaffer then served his residency and ascended to Chief Resident at Weill Cornell Medicine, earning himself the APA Resident Recognition Award.

Today, he is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and an Attending Psychiatrist at Weill Cornell, open to receiving new patients. He specializes in Adult Psychiatry and is trained to diagnose mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and more.

In 2020, Shaffer’s mother appeared in a Vogue Instagram video, announcing the publication’s “A Common Thread” campaign in partnership with CDFA. It would be financial aid to support designers affected by the pandemic.

The editor-in-chief also revealed that her son had fallen “quite ill” at the time and was self-quarantining. According to People and his wife’s Instagram, Shaffer’s family was also isolating. Still, his mother couldn’t be more proud of him, as she said:

“I am so proud of him and so grateful to all the health workers, first responders, nurses and doctors who are fighting to reduce the spread of the virus and save lives.”

Charlie Shaffer’s Wife and Children

Charlie Shaffer’s wife is the CEO and Co-Founder of Something New! Elizabeth Cordry. When she married Shaffer, Cordry was an assistant director of product development for the commerce website Jet.com in Montclair, New Jersey.

She was also the co-founder and CEO of the product recommendation app Masse between 2018 and 2020. Cordry studied at the University of Oxford, attaining a degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics in 2008. It was where her romance with Shaffer blossomed, and the couple went on to tie the knot in 2014.

Shaffer proved how strong his feelings were when he showed up for her after she suffered an injury to her collarbone. The assistant professor was so worried about Cordry that he phoned every hospital in Oxford to find her, abandoning all the post-exam celebrations. That’s when she knew he was serious about her.

The couple married in Anna Wintour’s home in Mastic Beach, Long Island, in July 2014. Designer Oscar de la Renta designed Cordry’s wedding dress and, with his wife, Annette, hosted the couple’s engagement party in October 2013.

A few days before their wedding day, Cordy and Shaffer welcomed some guests to stay with them. For Cordry, that was one of the most precious moments as a bride. She expressed that holding the wedding in her husband’s home also prevented any wedding jitters.

The couple exchanged vows in front of 180 guests, with Episcopalian Reverend James Lemler officiating their union. Since marrying, they’ve had two daughters; Caroline, born March 28, 2017, and Ella, born February 3, 2019.

Anna Wintour – who was once married to Shelby Bryan – has developed a bond with her grandchildren and has FaceTime calls with them. Although the journalist acknowledges that she is a grandmother, she doesn’t want to be called “grandma.” Instead, she prefers her grandchildren refer to her by her first name.

Does Anna Wintour Have Any More Children?

Anna Wintour’s secondborn and only daughter is Bee Carrozzini, born July 31, 1987. She followed in her mother’s footsteps, pursuing a career in journalism and television as a producer. She married Francesco Carrozzini in 2018, and the couple welcomed their son, Oliver, in October 2021.
